His clothes were divided

After good friday and easter Sunday, it is timely to remind ourselves of prophecy fulfilled in

Psalms 22:18

18 They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment. -niv 2011

Psalms is found in the old testament and was written many years before the gospel was written.

Fulfilled in the four gospels. All from niv 2011.

Matthew 27:35

35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots

Mark 15:24

24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get.

Luke 23:34

34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

John 19:23-24

23When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24“Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”  This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, “They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.  So this is what the soldiers did.

  1. The Bible for sure is a very interesting and very true Holy Book for certain inspired by Our Living God. Even if we read a certain chapter once every year year after year..the next time we find something we never noticed before thanks to The Holy Spirit of God. Every word is now coming true in a quicker pattern than days of old. As we just read about the death of Christ and the dividing up of his clothes I wonder. Did the people involved realized this man they just murdered was the Son of God and did they wish a piece of clothes because he was so special? Perhaps they divided up the clothes of every man they killed. We do not know. Let us not spend much time worrying about the book of Revelations what will happen first and it’s so hard to understand. Let us spend our time preparing ourselves for the rapture and “cleaning up” of our hearts so when in Heaven we will have a Very Close Location beside our God & Savior Jesus Christ.

  2. Agreed Bob that when we look at the Word the next time, we might notice something different again. Just as the soldiers crucify our Lord in those days in their ignorance, there are many today who commit atrocities against christians in their unbelief
